This whole Twitter deal
Ok, so I think I’m starting to understand this whole Twitter concept. When I first found out about it a few months ago. I was really skeptical of how useful it actually was because honestly I really don’t need to know what everyone is doing at every second of the day. Besides I really didn’t understand the main purpose behind Twitter because it came across as some sort of popularity contest in that you follow certain people to gain additional credibility among fellow media people.
My perception of Twitter started to change once I saw how useful this could be when applied to citizens journalism. The debates are a perfect example of this. It’s amazing to see bloggers posting their comments and posts in real-time as the event unfolds. I never would have thought that something like Twitter could actually be used to promote a sense of transparancy in political discourse. Yeah, I think I’m ready to dip my toe into this whole online networky thingy, but I still refuse to get a MySpace page.
