Worst Group Ever
Honestly, I haven’t really had too many bad experiences working on group projects. Most of the people that I have worked with were usually pretty responsible about getting stuff done. So it took me a while to think of an example but then I realized that one of the worst group projects that I had to partake in was during my Media Ethics and Law class over the summer.
My teacher wanted us to go in groups to the Dirksen Federal Building to observe a trial and report it back to the class. Instead of letting us pick partners, my teacher just went down the class list and paired everyone up.
Of course I got stuck with the one person in the class that was a total flake. This kid would walk into class a half hour late, sit down next to you, pick up YOUR copy of the newspaper and start reading it while muttering to himself.
So when I was paired up with him I pretty much knew that I would be handling the majority of the work on my own. The class was told to meet up at the courthouse at 9 a.m. and pair up.
I got there at 9, went through security and waited for my partner to show up. I watched other students in my class meet up with their partners and check out their court cases. I stood there for about 25 minutes waiting for this kid to show up. In the meantime, another group said I could join up with them so that I wasn’t left hanging. He showed up 10 minutes later completely disheveled mentioning something about getting lost in the wrong building.
We missed our first case so we decided to tag along with the other group’s trial (having two other classmates there also kept me from strangling him). We sat in on a case and afterwards as we were all walking back to class he just decided to wander off.
In the next class, we had to do a write up and report back to the class. So of course, he strolls in about 15 minutes late as I’m in the middle of talking to the class. At the end of my presentation, my teacher asks him if he’d like to add anything and he just sat there, shrugged his shoulders, and said “Not really.”
Yeah that was awesome.
