The internet’s ifluence on my life

I’ve grown up using the internet but it really doesn’t rule my life. Basically I’d use the internet for school, shopping, reading magazines that I don’t subscribe to and downloading music. I’ve never really been to keen on using the internet as a social network or to blog about my everyday life.

Now it’s not like I’ve got my head shoved under the sand when it comes to technology; I guess I just tended to be more old school about some things. I’m probably one of the last people on earth not to have a MySpace or FaceBook page (and honestly I don’t want one). Even though the intenet has the ability to connect people from throughout the world, there was still the element of having no idea who is on the other end of the conversation and I think that’s why I’ve never become to engrossed with it.

Yet I think that I’m starting to come around in some ways. I love how the internet has given people so many opportunities to voice their oppinions and create their own  publications or websites. I can see how sites like MediaBistro can actually connect freelance writers from throughout the country and allow them to network and swap advice.I also see how vital online skills are within the media industry.

I think that by learning how to do basic programming and learning how to customize a blog, I’ve learned how the internet can be meaningful and neccesary to me.
