The Future of Journalism
Being a journalism student who will be graduating in less than a year, it scares the bejesus out of me to think about what I’m going to be doing after graduation considering how unstable the newspaper/magazine business has become. But at the same time I think it’s amazing to think about how much more accessible independent publishing has become. Technology has completely turned the media industry on it’s ear: virtually anyone can create a blog or a publication, journalists are no longer the public’s predominant source of news, and some bloggers can seemingly come out of left field and parlay their site into a viable career. Seeing the entire industry open up in this way gives me hope for what I can accomplish in the future, especially when thinking about current job prospects makes me want to crawl into the fetal position.
